Vito J. Aiello, RHU
For over 33 years, Vito has been an integral piece of the Life Insurance and Employee Benefits business in Eugene. In 1993, he and three other agents founded Pacific Benefit Consultants. Today, he is a current shareholder and active partner. Vito holds a Registered Health Underwriter (RHU®) designation from the American College, and focuses on employee benefit plans, from small group coverage health coverage to large employer consulting. He assists in Group Life, Health, Short Term and Long-Term Disability plans, and provides an extraordinary degree of service. His involvement in the local community includes past President of Emerald Executive Association (twice since 1988), past board member of the Lane County Chapter of The American Red Cross, past President of the Lane County Chapter of the National Association of Insurance and Financial Planners, and active member of both the Oregon and National Associations of Health Underwriters. He is married to his wife, Keli, and lives in Eugene.
Shelli Anderson, RHU
With an emphasis on long term, financially sustainable solutions for large group employers, Shelli has aided clients in the insurance and health care industries for over twenty-six years. Since 1994, Shelli has made the ascent from department secretary to company shareholder and Vice President of Employee Benefits at PBC. Currently, she maintains a Registered Health Underwriter (RHU®) designation, and is working on her Chartered Healthcare Consultant (ChHC™) designation. Management of large group accounts (including identifying fully insured and alternative funding concepts for medical, dental, life, and disability plans) is her area of focus. Shelli is an active member of the Oregon Association of Insurance & Financial Advisors, performs volunteer work with United Way and numerous local schools, and has also coached her children’s soccer and volleyball teams.

Janine Amador originally joined PBC as a customer service representative in 2009, and quickly moved into managing the Benefits Department. Realizing her passion for customer service went beyond her existing role in the company, she became an active part of the sales team. She currently maintains her Oregon Life & Health license, and recently graduated from Northwest Christian University with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, minoring in Human Resource Management. Her goal is to develop meaningful relationships with her clients by providing innovative and suitable benefit solutions to both small and large group employers.
Tracy L. Bedortha
Customer Service Agent
Karen is the welcoming face of Pacific Benefit Consultants. If you have called or visited our office, you have probably heard her cheerful voice. She is an Oregon native with a long history of providing exceptional customer service, and has been with PBC since 2000. A University of Oregon graduate who studied music, Karen sets the agency tempo and keeps the various departments working in harmony. More than one agent here has noted that she is “the glue that holds us all together.” When not at work, Karen enjoys reading, drawing, archery, gardening, and spending time with her family.

Born and raised in coastal Oregon, Jeanette attended Delta College of Business, Finance, and Technology before settling into the Willamette Valley. She brought fifteen years of accounting experience to the PBC family in 2010, and received her Property and Casualty License in May of 2015. She currently serves the company as a customer service agent, where she enjoys meeting and interacting with clients. Jeanette is a current member of the Springfield chapter of the Elks Lodge, and participates as a volunteer with United Way and numerous local charitable organizations.
Investment Operations Assistant
As the Life & Financial Department Operations Assistant, Daphne supports the agents with mutual fund, variable annuity, and other securities-related transactions. You may see her when you drop off paperwork and checks. She is the primary point of contact when ironing out application form details, or requesting 1099s and other financial statements. Daphne graduated from California State University, Hayward (now East Bay), with a BA in History. Since 1994, she has thrived in the Financial Services Industry, working for a broker/dealer in the Bay Area for sixteen years before moving to the Eugene/Springfield area in 2010. In 2013, she became Series 6 Securities licensed. Reading, walking, and spending time with her dog are among her favorite pastimes.
A resident of the Eugene area for the past 45 years, Colleen has served in the property and casualty insurance industry since 1985. Personal and commercial insurance lines (of all sizes) are included in her areas of focus. She brought her wealth of industry knowledge to Pacific Benefit Consultants in 1999, and is presently designated as a Commercial Lines Distinguished Agent. Colleen became a shareholder in 2008, and serves the agency as Property and Casualty Department Vice President. Her work philosophy, “every person deserves VIP treatment,” is exemplified by her emphasis on customer service. Active in the community, Colleen has performed volunteer work at Music Ministry for over twenty years, and was also a member of Rotary Club. Since 1999, she has been a member of the Eugene Chamber of Commerce, and she is also a member of the Agent Advisory Board and the Independent Insurance Agents of Oregon.
New Business Coordinator
Dana’s ability to create beneficial and enduring relationships with insurance carriers, and their underwriting and service teams, is a result of twenty years of work in the insurance industry. As the Life & Financial Department’s New Business Coordinator, she navigates the red-tape world of insurance with ease for our clients. Dana finds and analyzes the products and resources that best fit each client’s unique life, disability, and long term needs. Her experience with underwriting a vast range of medical and lifestyle topics has shaped her into a field underwriting professional and translates to a high rate of success in negotiating attractive offers on challenging cases.

Jeff Clontz knows Lane County. Graduating from Thurston High School, he has lived in the Eugene/Springfield area for forty-eight years. Jeff has operated in the insurance industry for thirty-two years, and received his Oregon Property & Casualty license in 1985. For the past five years, Jeff has utilized his experience in the field as a Customer Service Agent in our Commercial Lines Department. With a compassionate and caring approach, he prides himself on ensuring the highest level of customer service is delivered to our clients, and finds satisfaction in being prompt and thorough in his responses to current and prospective customers.
Group Service Representative
Lisa Covington has an extensive work history in customer service. As a new Group Service Representative at Pacific Benefit Consultants, Lisa works with agents and insurance carriers to serve the insurance needs of regional employers. Her goal is to make the process of implementing and choosing insurance as pleasant and straightforward as possible for small and large business groups. Her son is her pride and joy, and the motivational force in her life. She services the community by volunteering throughout the year at Food for Lane County. Currently, she is pursuing her PhD in Psychology, and is a dual-enrolled student at University of Oregon and Lane Community College. She is excited to continue expanding her knowledge of Health and Life Insurance at Pacific Benefit Consultants.
Donna R. Corwin
Donna has over forty years’ experience as a property and casualty insurance professional. She has worked as a commercial underwriter for an insurance company and has spent the majority of her career working for independent insurance agencies. Donna has been a commercial lines producer for Pacific Benefit Consultant, Inc. for sixteen years. Her focus is working with clients (both large and small) to identify and handle risk within their businesses and to present insurance options that will help reduce their exposure.
Pat Cross graduated from the University of Oregon with an MBA in finance in 1976 and has a BBA in personnel management. Pat is a licensed CPA and insurance agent, and possesses over thirty years of experience in the health care industry. His group client base includes: large, multi-state, self-funded accounts (including actuarial funding analysis), public sector accounts, and small business accounts. Pat enjoys working with companies, individuals, and Medicare-eligible retirees, helping them find the optimal solution to their insurance challenges. Service to his clients is number one. In his spare time, he enjoys photography, fly fishing, skiing, and sailing.

An experienced customer service agent in the Property and Casualty Department, Diane joined PBC in 2003. She graduated from Salem Academy in 1973, and also attended Northwest Christian University. Possessing over 30 years of industry knowledge, she has been intimately involved with nearly every aspect of the administrative side of insurance, and “feels fortunate to be part of such a great team of insurance specialists.” As a Commercial Customer Service Agent in the Property and Casualty Department, Diane skillfully handles the renewal and review of policies, billing issues, claims processing and issuing of certificates. She enjoys investing time in her family, and is an active participant in her church’s volunteer activities.

Emma recently graduated from University of Oregon with a Bachelor of Science in Communication Disorders and Sciences. She has been an increasingly vital part of the PBC team for almost five years. Her role within the company has evolved over that period of time, beginning primarily as the file clerk, and transitioning into an administrative support role with Property and Casualty. Outside of the office, she has been involved in several volunteer experiences, including a yearly trip to Mexico with members of her church, where they build houses for families in need.
Robert Henly, Jr.
Group Service Representative
Rob is an Illinois native with a touch of Southern charm who first fell in love with the Pacific Northwest when he hiked Mt. Si in 1998. An Accounting major at Harold Washington and Chicago State, Rob brought more than thirty years of accounting and administrative experience to the company in 2015. His work experience also includes assisting non-profit organizations, like the Human Services Council in Vancouver, WA, where he initiated a bicycle donation program and helped raise over $3,500 in charitable contributions. Currently, Rob assists agents with developing benefits packages for small and large group employers. He enjoys the problem-solving aspect of the job and the potential for growth within the company. Rob splits his spare time in- and outdoors. He is a skilled billiards player who has participated in the APA National Pool League, and he enjoys hiking, camping, and fishing.
Dean Kortge, PhD, CLU, RHU
A founding partner of PBC, Dean focuses on Medicare issues and supplemental plans. Born in The Dalles in 1943 and married to Carolyn in 1964, he received his PhD in English History from University of Kansas in 1973, with an academic focus in English relations in Central America. He became Chairman of the Department of Family and Community Medicine at the University of Kansas School of Medicine-Wichita. Returning to Oregon, he served as Associate Director of a health planning agency in Eugene. In 1982, he became an insurance agent, and has actively served the industry since. Dean received the State Insurance Agents Association’s highest honor, the Bud Horn Award, in 2001, and served as President in 2003. An integral part of the community, he has been a member of numerous insurance advisory boards, Oregon Insurance Division Advisory Committees, and several community boards, including LTD, Direction Service, and the Lane County Home Builders Association.
Richard D. Kruse
Rick worked for Weyerhaeuser for 19 years, four years in the role of production manager, before beginning his professional career as a Health & Life insurance agent in 1991. He originally joined Pacific Benefit Consultants as an in-house AFLAC supplemental benefits specialist in 1994. Within a couple of years, he expanded his role to include Health & Life insurance benefits for group and individual clients. In 2012, he also began helping folks turning 65 with their Medicare coverage needs. Clients appreciate the laid back, personal and attentive style that he uses in servicing their needs.
Brian graduated from Washington State University in 1983 with Bachelor of Arts degrees in Broadcast Communications and Political Science. After a thirteen year career as a television sports anchor, he joined Pacific Benefit Consultants in 1996. Brian has earned the Distinguished Achievement Award from Safeco Commercial and Personal Lines Agent School. He became a shareholder at Pacific Benefit in 2001 and president in 2012. Brian enjoys the challenge of analyzing property and casualty risks for businesses and finding the best plan to protect their assets.
Janese Larsen, AAI, CPIW
Customer Service Agent
With over 40 years of experience in the insurance industry, Jan has experience in rating, underwriting, marketing, and sales. Currently, she is a commercial account executive handling a book of business and service rep on a portion of another book, and also is an active partner in a construction company. Jan maintains her Accredited Adviser of Insurance (AAI) and Certified Professional Insurance Woman (CPIW) designations, and is also licensed as a General Lines Consultant and Property & Casualty Agent. Married for 46 years, she enjoys outdoor time with her family, especially if it is at an Oregon State football game.
A Wisconsin native, Suzanne moved to Eugene in 2003. She brought nearly thirty years of experience to PBC the following year when she was hired on as a bookkeeper. In 2007, she was promoted to Business/Practice Manager. The company’s human resource and operations hub, Suzanne is a critical piece of the support team, enthusiastically seeking better, more efficient solutions to emerging challenges. She is also a member of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) and the Lane County Human Resource Association (LCHRA). She relaxes by tending to her vegetable garden and caring for her chickens, alpacas, and other fauna.
Joseph May, LUTCF
Joseph has more than fifteen years of experience in financial services. The focus of his practice is the financial security of his clients through holistic financial strategies involving investments and life, disability, and long-term care insurance. He is former President of the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors Lane County and continues to be an active member of the organization. Additionally, he is a past President of the Eugene Airport Rotary, a member of the Million Dollar Roundtable, and is an active member in the local community.
The close proximity of the mountains, coast, and Duck football are things Nancy has loved about the Eugene area since moving here as a young girl. She was a Psychology/Sociology dual major at University of Oregon, and is a member of the Alumni Association. Joining the PBC family in 2015, Nancy added 25 years of valuable administrative experience to the Accounting Department, and enjoys the positive, team-oriented environment here. In her spare time, she spends time traveling with her fiancé, and likes playing golf and tennis in the summer. She is an avid Oregon Football and Marcus Mariota fan.
James T. Menezes
Vice President, Secretary/Treasurer
Jim graduated from Oregon State University in 1982 with a degree in Business Administration. He has over thirty years of experience in the insurance and financial services business. Jim is a founding member of Pacific Benefit Consultants, and served as the president of PBC from 2005 to 2012. He is an active member of the National Association of Insurance & Financial Advisers and a qualifying member of the MDRT. Jim focuses on qualified retirement plans and individual investing. His practice also includes extensive work in insurance planning, such as life and health insurance, Medicare, disability, and long term care insurance.
Andy Miller attended Butler University, and was the Bulldogs’ quarterback from 1991 to 1993. Before entering the insurance industry, he was self-employed, operating his own businesses for over a decade. Currently, Andy maintains his Property and Casualty and Life and Health licenses, and has over ten years of experience assisting clients with their insurance needs. His areas of focus include helping protect families and commercial businesses from their financial exposures and risks. Dedicated to his clients, Andy emphasizes a high level of customer care. He looks forward to another twenty-five years in the insurance industry.
Tomi L. Purcell
Customer Service Agent
Tomi has worked in the insurance industry for 27 years. She received an Associate of Arts in General Studies, began her insurance career as a secretary for an insurance agent in Washington, and returned to Oregon in 1989. She was originally hired by Thurston Insurance Agency (acquired by Russell-Miller Insurance Agency, who later merged with PBC). Currently, Tomi is the Senior Customer Service Agent, maintains her Property and Casualty License, and is an essential part of the PBC family. She is a recipient of the Outstanding Customer Achievement Award from Oregon Mutual Insurance Company, and remains diligent in helping her customers obtain the necessary insurance coverage they need to protect their personal assets. She treats her clients with the personal care that they deserve, and finds joy in developing personal and professional relationships with them, which is why so many have been with her since the beginning of her career in Oregon. She has two daughters, and will soon have her first grandchild.

As a mother and insurance professional, Nicole knows the importance of finding social and financial balance. She graduated from Oregon State University in 1992 with a Bachelor of Science in Health Care Administration. Serving in the health care and insurance industries for over twenty-four years, Nicole began working for PBC in the Life and Financial Service Division in 2003, and received her Oregon Health & Life state license in 2006. She has served our individual health and Medicare clients for the past three years. She enjoys working with clients, ensuring they’re insurance needs are met while helping them navigate the changing world of healthcare. Actively involved in school and community functions, she has served on numerous committees, and currently holds a chair position on the Booster Board at Sheldon High School.
Data Entry Clerk
Paden Torricellas is an administrative assistant here at Pacific Benefit Consultants. She primarily works in our Accounting Department, but you may also see her at our front desk, answering phones and greeting customers. Always eager to learn something new, Paden has worked in accounting for nine years, enjoys the various aspects of her job, and is always ready to jump in and learn something new in the insurance industry. Born and raised in the Eugene area, Paden takes a special interest in the local community. For over a decade, she has volunteered her knowledge of American Sign Language to assist the deaf community in Lane County and surrounding areas.
Donovan earned his Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education from University of Oregon in 1983, graduating with honors. As a commercial banker, IBM financial analyst and administrative specialist, and as a wrestling coach, Donovan always placed an emphasis on building relationships, which has positively enhanced his insurance industry knowledge. With over a decade of experience in the business, he is a dedicated insurance professional who focuses on all aspects of property and casualty insurance and bonding. Protecting the client is Donovan’s highest priority. He recognizes that each person is unique, and he enjoys analyzing individual situations in order to provide the optimal insurance solution. His free time is spent outdoors—hiking, camping, gardening, or golfing—with his wife and four children.

Jeanine is an accomplished professional with over sixteen years of comprehensive knowledge and experience, focusing on a full range of employee benefit, individual, and family health insurance plans. She maintains her Health, Life and Consulting license, and currently maintains her Registered Health Underwriter (RHU©) and Chartered Healthcare Consultant (ChHC©) designations. As part of the Pacific Benefit Consultants team, Jeanine works closely with a wide range of clients to provide them with the best opportunities the market offers, while assisting them with the ever-changing world of healthcare reform. In addition to her career, she holds many leadership positions in civic and non-profit organizations. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with family, riding motorcycles, and traveling.
David L. Walker
A native Oregonian, Dave was born and raised in Eugene. He attended University of Oregon, playing the position of defensive linemen for the Oregon Ducks from 1967 to 1970, and received Pac-8 All-Academic honors. He coached college football for fifteen years, notably at BYU, UCLA, and Oregon, before delving into the insurance industry. Since 1986, he has been helping Oregonians meet their insurance needs, assisting both individuals and private businesses with life insurance, long-term care, retirement planning, individual health coverage, Medicare products. Dave enjoys assisting small businesses with the development of their employee benefits packages, and his retirement product portfolio includes work on IRA’s and employee-sponsored plans.
Born and raised in New Zealand, Steve began his working career with the NZ Government for five years and quickly promoted to Office Supervisor. Yearning to experience the world, he visited the United States in 1979, and enjoyed the Pacific Northwest so much he decided to live in Oakridge. He married, moved to Eugene, and began his insurance career with New York Life, where he earned their Rookie of the Year Award in 1986. Licensed in Annuities, Life and Health, and Property and Casualty, Steve operated an independent office in Oakridge for a number of years before joining forces with PBC in 2000. He focuses on serving the Property and Casualty needs of the Eastern Lane County region. He is actively involved in the Oakridge community, having served as President of the Kiwanis Club and Cub Scouts, member of the Chamber of Commerce, leader of the Uptown Business Revitalization Association, and Secretary/Treasurer of the Greater Oakridge Area Trail Stewards. He and his wife, Renee, are proud of their four children, who are all on their own roads to success.
Phillip B. Smith, III
Group Service Agent
As an avionics technician with the world famous VMA-214 Black Sheep, Phillip excelled as a technician, inspector, supervisor, and flight schedule coordinator, and was selected to be a technical instructor. Before becoming a Marine, Phillip was born an Oregonian. The desert sun of Arizona and Iraq, sweltering humidity of the South, and traffic congestion of SoCal have only served to reinforce that the Pacific Northwest is home. After his enlistment, he attended University of Oregon, graduating Magna Cum Laude with a BA in English, minoring in Writing, Public Speaking, and Critical Reasoning. While a student, he honed his customer service skills as a restaurant server and bartender before joining PBC as an Individual Service Rep in 2015. He received his Life and Health insurance license in 2016, and recently began assisting with business clients as a Group Service Agent. Phillip loves spending leisure time with his wife, Candice, and their newborn daughter.
R. Mark Summers
Mark believes each client is unique. Embracing his role as an educator, he enables his clients to make the best possible decision. This is evidenced by his philosophy: “The situation is the boss, the result is the judge.” With over 19 years of experience, Mark has had the privilege of addressing many groups on a variety of topics, including Medicare, Social Security, Long Term Care, Health Insurance, Life Insurance in Estate Planning, Pension Maximization, Voluntary Benefits, and Section 125 employee benefit plans. Among the groups he has addressed throughout his career are The Lane County Bar Association, Douglas County Tax Preparers, the Vancouver division of the Washington State Department of Transportation, and numerous large and small employer groups. Mark has also held management and agent training positions with Aflac and the New York Life Insurance Company.
