Part D Prescription Drug
Part D of Medicare (Prescription Drug Coverage) will become effective January 01, 2006. Insurance companies will issue all Part D Coverage. Medicare only establishes minimum standards that must be met by every company.One very critical component of the Medicare standards is that every plan must require each insured to meet a true-out-of-pocket maximum. In other words, at some point, you must pay 100% of the cost of your prescriptions.
Most plans will be a simple co-pay plan not having a deductible to satisfy. Therefore, when selecting your Part D plan, the critical elements you must consider are:
- How much is the co-payment for which prescriptions?
- Is there a mail-order benefit?
- What pharmacies can I use?
- Who do I call if I need help with anything?
